Zoomin Effeortlessly Dominates the Leo Stakes at Remington Park
OKLAHOMA CITY – Saturday, April 2, 2016 - The first Grade 1 stakes event of the Remington Park American Quarter Horse Season for older horses was held Saturday night with Zoomin Effortlessly crushing his competition in the $100,000 Leo Stakes. The 5-year-old ran his winning streak to seven in the process and appears capable of keeping the run going for quite some time.
Owned by Telesforo Perrett of Houston and trained by Rick Robinson, Zoomin Effortlessly was ridden with plenty of confidence by Santos Carrizales who did not panic when his charge didn’t leave the starting gate perfectly.
“He’s kind of funny in the gates. Sometimes he breaks great and sometimes he hesitates a little bit,” Carrizales said. “By the second jump he gives it all out. He can go 440 (yards) easy.”
Zoomin Effortlessly quickly made up ground on his faster-starting rivals to gain control and pull away under light encouragement from Carrizales. He crossed the finish 2-1/2 lengths ahead of last year’s Leo Stakes winner and 2015 Remington Park Horse of the Meeting, Dashin Brown Streak. The Big Time was a neck behind the runner-up to finish third.
The even-money wagering favorite, Zoomin Effortlessly paid $4 to win, $3 to place and $2.60 to show. Dashin Brown Streak paid $4.20 to place and $3.80 to show. The Big Time returned $9.20 to show.
The Leo Stakes was the first victory, in his first start, at Remington Park for Zoomin Effortlessly. The gelding by Zoomin For Bux from the Royal Quick Dash mare Royal Quick Affair has now won 13 of 20 career starts. The Leo Stakes check of $59,370 runs the lifetime earnings for Zoomin Effortlessly to $340,131. He was bred in Texas by Tommy Charbula.
