TELLER BAJA Cruises to Remington Park Futurity Triumph
OKLAHOMA CITY, April 24, 2016 – Teller Baja impressed once again in her third career start, rolling to a half-length win in the $958,000 Remington Park Futurity for Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds.
Owned and bred in Oklahoma by Juan Medina of Zapata, Texas, Teller Baja is trained by Rick Robinson and was ridden once again by Agustin Silva who had to make a very slight adjustment right after the start of the race. “She broke a little in, after that she straightened up and we got the money.”
Silva tapped Teller Baja just a few times midway through the 330 yards, then hand-rode her over the final 100 yards. She glided under the finish line in :16.752 seconds over the fast track. V Power and Eye De Man worked hard to gain ground but never seriously threatened the winner, finishing second and third respectively, a nose apart.
The wagering favorite at 6-5 odds, Teller Baja paid $4.40 to win, $3.20 to place and $3.60 to show. V Power returned $3.60 to place and $3.20 to show. Eye De Man paid $7.40 to show.
The top qualifier from the first night of trials for the futurity on April 8, Teller Baja is a perfect three-for-three this season. The filly by Teller Cartel from the Tres Seis mare Baja Jazz picked up $355,200 for the triumph to push her overall total to $375,778.
