OKIES CC BREAKS MAIDEN STATUS IN $100,000 REMINGTON PARK JUVENILE

OKLAHOMA CITY, April 24, 2016 – The richest race on Sunday at Remington Park was the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile for 2-year-old Oklahoma-breds who competed in trials for the Remington Park Futurity but did not reach the final. Okies CC took advantage of the big-money opportunity to score the hefty paycheck while also winning her first career race.

Owned by Joel Rod Pierce of Sallisaw, Okla. and trained by Jerry Ingels, Okies CC was ridden by Omar Reyes. The 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly posted the upset from her outside post position in the field of nine at 330 yards. Okies CC battled with Darker Tint throughout the course, winning the bob at the finish line by a nose in :17.343 seconds over the fast track. Peves Freddy B was another half-length behind in third.

Away at 16-1 odds in the betting, Okies CC paid $34.60 to win, $13.20 to place and $6.20 to show. Darker Tint was the 6-5 wagering favorite, paying $3.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Peves Freddy B paid $3.40 to show.

Breaking her maiden status in her third career attempt, Okies CC was bred in by Steve Holt. She is a daughter of Carters Cartel from the Okey Dokey Dale mare Chase This Okie. The winner’s share for the Juvenile was $40,820 and moved Okies CC career money to $43,874.

VICTORIA ENNIS MEMORIAL

Oklahoma-bred 2-year-old Paints and Appaloosas had their stakes chance on Sunday in the $22,500 Victoria Ennis Memorial. KC Texas Lady used a solid start to take the immediate lead in the race, managing to hold on to win by a nose.

Owned by Wade and Charles Leggett of Muskogee, Okla. and trained by Dee Keener, KC Texas Lady was ridden by Cody Jensen. She covered the 330 yards in :17.325 seconds. Cherry Cobbler rallied to finish a close second with I Hear Banjos another 1-1/4 lengths behind in third place.

At 7-1 odds in the betting, KC Texas Lady paid $16 to win, $5.60 to place and $4.20 to show. Cherry Cobbler returned $3.80 to place and $3.20 to show. I Hear Banjos paid $5.20 to show. Cl Trap Queen was the wagering favorite at 8-5 odds but was never in the race, running eighth and last.

The victory was the second from four starts this season for KC Texas Lady, a Paint filly by Texas Six from the SF Royal Quick Flash mare Kaywantsafastone. She was bred in Oklahoma by Kay Churchwell. KC Texas Lady made $13,338 to increase her total bankroll to $21,664.

The Victoria Ennis Memorial is named in honor of the Oklahoman who was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club Hall of Fame and was a prominent breeder and owner for many years before her passing in 2009.
