PAINTED TURNPIKE FAVORED IN FRIDAY NIGHT’S MISTER LEWIE

OKLAHOMA CITY – Painted Turnpike, currently the top runner in Paint Horse racing, will go to the starting gate again on Friday night at Remington Park. The Grade 1, $30,000 Mister Lewie Memorial at 400 yards has a field of nine with Painted Turnpike as the heavy 4-5 morning-line favorite.
Owned and bred in Oklahoma by Nolan Pevehouse of Webbers Falls, Okla., Painted Turnpike is trained by Matt Whitekiller and will be ridden by regular jockey Cody Smith. The talented 3-year-old makes his second straight attempt against older rivals after dispatching his foes in the Paul Harber Memorial on April 15. In that, his first race against older runners, Painted Turnpike won by 1-1/4 lengths with plenty in reserve at the finish.
A colt by PYC Paint Your Wagon (qh) from the SF Royal Quick Flash mare High Class Turnpike, Painted Turnpike has won five consecutive races and 10 of 11 overall in his career. He now boasts earnings of $261,607.

The Mister Lewie Memorial is for Paints and Appaloosas. The race is named in honor of Lewis Wartchow who dominated Paint and Appaloosa racing for decades in Oklahoma and beyond, prior to his death in 2003.
The first race on Thursday and Friday, May 19 & 20 is at 6pm. Saturday, May 21 will feature the simulcast of the Preakness Stakes from Pimlico in Baltimore. Remington Park will race at 4:05pm on Saturday with the Preakness shown at 5:45pm. Sunday racing is at 1:30pm. All times are Central.
