OKLAHOMA CITY – Sunday, May 22, 2016, The Grade 3, $44,800 Merial Oklahoma Distaff Challenge on Sunday at Remington Park was won by one of the younger contestants in a field of veteran females. Getting Even, a 3-year-old filly, rallied for her just her second career score, pulling away to win the 400-yard race by a length.

Owned by Christine Hudson of Morgan Mill, Texas and trained by Mike Robbins, Getting Even was ridden by Omar Reyes who picked up the mount after Cody Jensen, the jockey named to ride, was injured earlier in the weekend.

Unfortunately, our good friend Cody Jensen got hurt. I’d like to thank Mike (Robbins) for letting me ride this filly. She did it easy. She didn’t break too well but she came running down the racetrack,” Reyes said. “I got after her a little bit and she really started running. It made my job easy.

 

Lightly raced, Getting Even has her career going now in just her fifth race, pulling in her first stakes triumph.

We’ve always knew she had this in her… we hoped that she did,” Robbins said. “Last year she had a few little problems along the way. Christine was good enough to let me rest her, most of the summer and all winter and she’s really come back into herself.

 

Getting Even drew away at 8-1 odds and paid $18.40 to win, $10.80 to place and $10 to show. Eyesa Good One was second and paid $7.60 to place and $4.60 to show. Honeymoon Candy was just a nose behind the runner-up for third and paid $3.80 to show. Send Me This Wagon was the beaten 6-5 wagering favorite, finishing sixth.

A 3-year-old filly by One Famous Eagle from the Dash For Destiny mare Dash Master Miss, Getting Even was bred in Texas by Scarlett Hill Farm. The second win from five lifetime stars was worth $22,356 for Getting Even, running her total earnings to $28,160.

The longest racing week of the Remington Park season takes place next week, Thursday, May 26 thru Memorial Day Monday, May 30. Sunday racing features $360,000 in purse money over five stakes events, including the rescheduled $100,000 Sooner State Stakes.
