CRAWFORD DEFENDS TRAINING TITLE, CARNERO AND JK RUNNING HORSES WIN INITIAL REMINGTON PARK CROWNS
OKLAHOMA CITY – June 7, 2016, The 2016 American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season at Remington Park came to a close after 50 race dates on June 4. Trainer Clint Crawford scored his second consecutive Jack Brooks Award as the leading trainer of the season.

Crawford, from Sallisaw, Okla., won 36 races from 188 starters, winning 19% of his attempts. He also had runners finish second and third 26 times each. Crawford was honored on the season’s final night, with legendary Hall of Fame trainer Jack Brooks on hand to present the award named after him.
In 2015, Crawford won his first Remington Park title with 21 wins. He actually finished as co-leading trainer a year ago with Jeff Dean who also had 21 victories.
There is no sharing the award in 2016 as Crawford finished five wins ahead of Eddie Willis who was second with 31 wins. Willis is a nine-time leading trainer at Remington Park. Trainer Dee Keener was third in the standings with 26 triumphs.
The leading trainer by stable earnings in 2016 at Remington Park is Rick Robinson. His small but talented barn of runners amassed $1,028,066 for the season from 64 starts with 15 wins, 14 seconds and nine thirds. Robinson boasted big-money wins in the $958,000 Remington Park Futurity by Teller Baja and in both the $250,000 Remington Park Championship and the $100,000 Leo Stakes by Zoomin Effortlessly.
Robinson was the only trainer to go over the million-dollar mark in season earnings. Second in the money standings for trainers was Willis with $829,776. Crawford was third in earnings with $721,664.
Leading Jockey – Ivan Carnero

Riding first call for Remington Park’s leading trainer in 2016 was definitely a boost toward the top of the standings for Ivan Carnero as he won his initial riding title with 49 wins.
Carnero, 24 of Amarillo, Texas has been a regular jockey at Remington Park for a number of years. He used his assignment from the barn of trainer Clint Crawford to accumulate the bulk of his victories in winning the title. Carnero had 253 mounts during the season, winning 19% of his races. He also finished second and third 41 times each to have a 52% rate in the top three positions from his mounts.
Carnero elevated from a second-place finish at Remington Park in 2015 when he finished behind 18-time leading jockey G.R. Carter in what would be his final year of racing. Carnero had 30 wins at Remington Park last year.
Second in the jockey standings this season was Agustin Silva with 43 wins. Finishing third was Daniel Torres with 30 wins.
Silva did get the edge in mount earnings as he was the regular first-call jockey for the Rick Robinson barn. Silva racked up $1,347,370 to finish first, ahead of Carnero who had mount earnings of $1,154,577.
Silva and Carnero were the only two jockeys to go over the million-dollar mark in earnings.
