FIRST OFFICIAL WORKOUT OF SEASON POSTED BY CROPPED TOP

OKLAHOMA CITY – Remington Park opened the main track for training this morning as horses prepare for the opening of the 2017 American Quarter Horse Season. Under a bright and sunny sky with temperatures nearing 60 degrees, Cropped Top posted the first official workout for the season at approximately 8:45am.

Owned by Terry and Irene Stennett of Odessa, Texas and trained by Trey Wood, Cropped Top breezed 220 yards in :11.50 seconds over a fast track under jockey Ricky Ramirez according to Remington Park clocker Vicky Grothaus.

A 3-year-old California-bred filly by Corona Cartel from the Strawfly Special mare Tender Flyer, Cropped Top made five starts last year as a 2-year-old. She broke her maiden in her career debut in June at Ruidoso Downs, N.M. then posted two consecutive wins at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas in the fall. Cropped Top won an allowance race by one length in September then won her trial for the Texas Classic Futurity in October, also by one length.

Others on the workout tab for the initial morning of training included stakes competitors Bodacious Eagle and Sam Crow.

Bodacious Eagle breezed 220 yards in :11.54 seconds. A 5-year-old gelding, Bodacious Eagle was active in all of the major stakes races for older horses at Remington Park in 2016, finishing second in the Eastex Stakes, fourth in the Grade 1 Leo Stakes and fourth in the Grade 1 Remington Park Championship.

Sam Crow worked 220 yards in :11.58 seconds handily. A second-place finish in the 2016, $100,000 Sooner State Stakes was the top effort for the 5-year-old gelding at Remington Park last year.

Training over the main track surfaced is now scheduled for the mornings, Tuesdays thru Sundays.

Wednesday, Feb. 8 will provide the initial day of training races. A loaded schedule of 17 training races take place starting at 11am. The 250-yard events are used by trainers to allow young horses, seeking their first pari-mutuel start, the opportunity to go through the race-day process. The Remington Park training races will be streamed and available for review on the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association website: oqhra.online.

The 2017 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park will begin on Friday, March 10 and continue thru Saturday, June 3.
