OKLAHOMA CITY -- April 21, 2018 - After a string of five near-miss losses in stakes races, Valiant Rogue made his first trip back into the winner’s circle since his win in the Mighty Deck Three stakes at Remington Park in March of 2017. 

The winner of the 2016 Grade 1, Rainbow Derby at Ruidoso Downs, N.M., Valiant Rogue added plenty of class to Saturday’s Grade 2, $54,730 Bob Moore Memorial Stakes field. His race winnings of $33,030 pushed his lifetime earnings to $705,467, with a record of seven wins from 20 races. 

Having finished third, beaten just a neck in the Mr Jet Moore Stakes here in April, Valiant Hero, made the lead shortly out of the gate and prevailed in another close finish.

“That was a true Quarter Horse race right there,” said winning jockey G.R. Carter. “My horse really broke good and he had a real clean trip on the outside. He won and made me look good. I hit him a couple of times left-handed and he just kind of ran away from them and stayed in front. He ran a really nice race.”

The 5-year-old gelded son of Valiant Hero from the Azoom mare Azoom Babe is trained by James Padgett II and owned by Wyok Ranch LLC of Hillsdale, Wyo. Principal owner Kevin Brown said, “He needed an out last time. We’d given him about a 10-month break to freshen him up. He showed what he’s capable of doing tonight.”

Valiant Rogue prevailed by a neck to win an 8-horse photo finish for the win, with the first nine finishers in the field of 10, within one length of each other. Valiant Rogue paid $26 to win, $8.20 to place and $7 to show. Knockemout Capi battled the entire race and paid $7.20 to place and $4.20 to show. Paint My Pilot finished third to pay $5.60 to show. High Plains Perry was the tepid 7-2 race favorite and finished fifth, beaten less than a length for the win.

Valiant Rogue was bred in Oklahoma by Bollenbach Farms.

The Bob Moore Memorial is named in honor of the Hall of Fame horseman who was prominent in American Quarter Horse racing for over four decades, operating from his Norman, Okla. farm.

Sunday, April 22 is Extreme Racing Day 2018 at Remington Park as the exotic animals compete throughout the afternoon, in between the regular American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa races. The exhibition races will begin the day at 1pm with the Express Ranch Clydesdales’ Match Race. The regular horse racing program starts at 1:30pm.
