TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION JESSIES FIRST DOWN FAVORED IN SATURDAY’S LEO STAKES
OKLAHOMA CITY -- April 27, 2018 – The initial Grade 1 race for older horses this season at Remington Park is set for Saturday night with the $100,000 Leo Stakes. Two-time defending American Quarter Horse Association World Champion, Jessies First Down, is the 7-5 morning-line favorite for the 400-yard race.
Owned by Ted Abrams of Houston and trained by James Padgett, Jessies First Down will be ridden by his regular jockey, Rodrigo Vallejo. The 7-year-old gelding is making his initial start of 2018 as he begins a quest to gain a third consecutive world championship title. Jessies First Down last competed in Oklahoma City when he finished second in the 2017 Remington Park Championship last June.
Jessies First Down has won 15 career races from 34 attempts and boasts earnings of $1,075,364, both are tops among those entered for the Leo Stakes.
Bodacious Eagle, winner of the 2017 Leo Stakes, is back for more this year as he also makes his first start of the season. Owned by Johnny Trotter of Hereford, Texas and trained by Trey Wood, Bodacious Eagle will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez. A 6-year-old gelding, Bodacious Eagle has the second most career wins of those in the Leo Stakes with 11.
The Leo Stakes will be the 11th race of 12 on Saturday night with the first race at 6pm and the Leo at 10:29pm. All times are Central.

Remington Park racing continues Friday thru Sunday, April 27-29. The first race is at 6pm on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday racing underway at 1:30pm.
