LIVE MOONSHINE WINS AMERICAN PAINT CLASSIC FUTURITY AT REMINGTON PARK

OKLAHOMA CITY -- April 28, 2018 – The Grade 1, $152,900 American Paint Classic went to Live Moonshine on Saturday night at Remington Park. The 2-year-old gelding rallied in a drive, putting his head in front over the final 100 yards to triumph.

Owned and bred by Dan and Kaye Jones of Kemp, Texas and trained by Matt Whitekiller, Live Moonshine was ridden by Cody Smith. The connections won the American Paint Classic for the second straight year, having taken the 2017 edition with Bully Pulpit.

Live Moonshine had to make up some ground in the 350-yard race. Under urging from Smith, he was able to take control of the race late and hold off RP Live Wire Dash and Memories Of Lil Hero, who finished second and third, respectively.

“We still got away pretty good,” Smith noted. “He made the lead and held on to win.”

The third victory of the Remington Park season for Live Moonshine was also his second appearance in a futurity. He finished fourth in the Oklahoma Paint/Appaloosa Futurity here in March. Live Moonshine has shown gradual improvement according to Whitekiller. “He’s kind of slow-minded but he’s a pretty good colt and he likes to get down the racetrack.”

Away in the wagering at 3-1 odds, Live Moonshine paid $8.60 to win, $3.60 to place and $2.60 to show. RP Live Wire Dash, the beaten favorite at 4-5 odds, battled but settled for second to return $2.60 to place and $2.10 to show. Memories Of Lil Hero was another head back in third and paid $3.60 to show. The remaining order of finish: El Fargo, Wired For Sound, Wendells Livewire, DTL That Kinda Girl, Country Fly Girl and Right On The Nose.

Bred in Texas, Live Moonshine is by CRM Livewire from the Awesome Chrome mare PRP Sedona Sunset. The American Paint Classic, presented by the Paint Stallion Breeders’ Association, was worth $58,102 to Live Moonshine who has now banked $79,196 over his four starts this season.

Remington Park racing continues on Sunday afternoon with a 10-race program underway at 1:30pm-Central.
